Etrian Odyssey Wiki:File policies
This is an enforced policy on Etrian Odyssey Wiki. This means that this page details the standard that all editors are expected to follow. To suggest any changes to this policy, please refer to the talk page.
When uploading an image or file to Etrian Odyssey Wiki, there are certain standards for naming and categorizing them that you are expected to follow, in order to keep everything organized consistently and make it easier for editors to find and use the image. This page sets out and explains those standards, and includes some examples to help you on your way.

Naming images
Game abbreviation codes
These abbreviation codes are used in almost all file names to identify the game the image comes from, so try to remember them. They are mostly what you'd expect them to be.
Artwork
Official artwork, including art of characters, locations, and so on, should be named in the format
File:<abbr> <description> <number>.png
- abbr: Game abbreviation code, in upper-case (e.g. "EO1").
- description: Short description of the image; e.g. a character's name.
- number: Optional, but include if there are multiple pieces of artwork of the same entity from the same game.
Screenshots
All screenshots should be named in the format
File:Screen <abbr> <description>.png
- abbr: Game abbreviation code, in lower-case (e.g. "eo2").
- description: Short description of the image, in lower-case; e.g. a character's name.
Location images
Location images (rips from game files, not original artwork) should be named in the format
File:Loc <abbr> <location>.png
- abbr: Game abbreviation code, in lower-case (e.g. "eo2").
- location: Name of the location, in lower-case.
Portraits
All portraits should be named in the format
File:Portrait <abbr> <character> <number>.png
- abbr: Game abbreviation code, in lower-case (e.g. "eo2").
- character: Name of the character or class, in lower-case.
- number: Use two digits; i.e. 01, 02, 03, 04, etc. Number them in the order in which they appear in-game.
For example, the Imperial's sixth portrait from Etrian Odyssey IV (seen right) is named

Enemy sprites
All enemy sprites should be named in the format
File:Es <abbr> <enemy>.png
- abbr: Game abbreviation code, in lower-case (e.g. "eo2").
- enemy: Name of the enemy, in lower-case.
Enemy sprites are only used in EO1-3.
Map icons
All map icons should be named in the format
File:Mi <abbr> <description>.png
- abbr: Game abbreviation code, in lower-case (e.g. "eo2").
- description: Short description of the icon, in lower-case.
Item sprites
All item sprites should be named in the format
File:Is <abbr> <description>.png
- abbr: Game abbreviation code, in lower-case (e.g. "eo2").
- description: Short description of the icon, in lower-case.
Box artwork
All box artwork should be named in the format
File:Ba <abbr> <region>.png
- abbr: Game abbreviation code, in lower-case (e.g. "eo2").
- region: Description of the region the box art is for, in lower-case (e.g. "japan", "europe", "north america").
For example, the European box artwork of Etrian Odyssey Nexus (seen right) is named

Categories
You must always place an image in an appropriate category when uploading. If an image is used in multiple games (e.g. character portraits from Etrian Odyssey Untold are reused in Etrian Odyssey 2 Untold), place it in categories for all relevant games.

If you aren't sure which category should go on an image, then just place it in the game's general image category, and an administrator will move it to the correct category for you:

File deletion policy
The vast majority of images you may wish to upload will be perfectly acceptable. However, if an image violates any of the following conditions, it will be deleted.
- Copyright violation
- Images which have been stolen from another site without the original owner's permission and/or proper attribution and licencing will be deleted, as this constitutes violation of copyright.
- Duplicated file
- Images that are duplicates of another file on the wiki will be deleted, as there is no need to have two copies of the same image. The image of higher quality will be kept, or if the two files are of identical quality, the image already in use will be retained.
- Superseded
- If an image is replaced by one of superior quality, the inferior image will be deleted when all references to it are removed.
- Vandalism
- Pornographic, spam, racist, and similarly offensive images will be taken down without notice.
- Irrelevant to Etrian Odyssey Wiki
- Images that can have no appropriate usage on Etrian Odyssey Wiki will more than likely be removed. These can include, but are not limited to, images intended for use in custom signatures, personal images not in use on a user page, and images only used in articles outside of Etrian Odyssey Wiki's coverage policy.
- Uploader request
- If the image's original uploader requests its removal, the image may be deleted.
