Etrian Odyssey 2 Untold: The Fafnir Knight (Japanese: 新・世界樹の迷宮2 ファフニールの騎士 New Labyrinth of the World Tree 2: The Fafnir Knight) is a dungeon-crawler RPG for the Nintendo 3DS, released in Japan in November 2014, in North America in August 2015, and in Europe in February 2016. It is a remake of Etrian Odyssey II: Heroes of Lagaard, the second game in the series, the overall sixth title in the Etrian Odyssey series, and the third entry for the Nintendo 3DS.
Story
Gameplay
There are two gameplay modes; Classic and Story. Classic mode works in the same manner as previous Etrian Odyssey entries, having custom characters and maps. Story mode has an expansive story with cutscenes and preset characters with voice acting, but players still have to draw out their own dungeon maps. The game also has three difficulty settings: Picnic which gives an easy gameplay experience, Normal for a moderately difficult but manageable gameplay experience, and Expert for the toughest gameplay experience possible.

The base game of Etrian Odyssey 2 Untold features a total of 14 playable classes, the second-highest number after Etrian Odyssey Nexus. One class, the Fafnir, is wholly unique to the game, and another, the Sovereign, is borrowed from Etrian Odyssey III, while the others return from the original Etrian Odyssey II. A fifteenth class, the Highlander from Etrian Odyssey Untold, appears as DLC.
In Etrian Odyssey 2 Untold Story mode, there are five main playable characters:
Hero
"An orphan born and raised at the Midgard Library. Through one of his missions, he discovers he has the power to transform into something... altogether inhuman."
Arianna
"As the princess of Duchy of Caledonia, her duty is to perform the centennial ritual. Well-mannered and gentle, but having grown up rather sheltered, she can be somewhat naive... or just oblivious."
Flavio
"The Hero's childhood friend, and a member of the Midgard Library's Investigation Team. Sociable and always ready with a smile, he keeps his comrades' spirits up. He often ends up playing the straight man to his somewhat more peculiar colleagues."
Bertrand
"A knight met while traveling through Ginnungagap Ruins for the ritual. Apathetic, ambivalent and eager to stay away from anything requiring actual effort, he makes for a bizarre exploring companion. He's hardly the sort of man you'd expect to be a Protector."
Chloe
"A War Magus traveling together with Bertrand. She doesn't say or express much, and she refuses to get involved in anything that doesn't interest her. A true eccentric. She doesn't appear to have any filter between her thoughts and her words, but she means well."

Selling 59,531 copies in the first week of release in Japan, Etrian Odyssey 2 Untold: The Fafnir Knight has received positive critical reception from reviewers.
