EO2/Missions

Missions are crucial to story progression, and are issued one at a time by Minister Dubois from the Duke's Palace. The game usually prevents you from progressing too far into the labyrinth until you've taken up and completed the associated mission.

Entrance Examination

You must be granted High Lagaardian citizenship before you begin your journey. Enter the Labyrinth and create a map of the first floor.
Reward: 200en

You're given a partial map that only shows the first area of 1F. The guard you meet will transport your party to a distant corner, where you are then introduced to the mapping controls and have to navigate your way back to the entrance. Don't forget to draw in the walls, or the guard won't let you return home.

Finishing this mission also gets you the Proof Card. Show this to [[Abigail] at the shop to unlock the all-important Warp Wire/Ariadne Thread that gets you back to town from anywhere in the labyrinth. You can also begin accepting quests from Stickleback Bar.

Find the Missing Guards

Every guard the Duke has sent to patrol the Labyrinth has gone missing. Investigate these disappearances and, if possible, rescue the guards.
Reward: 500en

This mission becomes available after Hrothgar and Wulfgar prevent you from opening the door on 3F. Accept the mission and receive a Lure Bell to help with navigating the FOEs.

Open the door at sector C-3 and you'll find two Furyhorns patrolling around their pillars and a Furylord who won't move. Use the Lure Bell to move it out of position, then slip into the corridor it's guarding and find the guard at the dead end in the north. There's also a shortcut at the corner of the corridor that serves as the escape route.

You cannot open the door to 4F until you have escorted the survivor to safety.

Chimaera, king of beasts

The monstrous Chimaera has attracted a horde of beasts into the first Stratum. This monster must be subjugated by order of the Grand Duchy.
Reward: 1500en

This mission is available immediately after you have completed the previous mission.

Travel to 5F, where the Chimaera awaits in the central room. It's not alone, as it has six Slaveimps that will approach you during the fight and attempt to join the battle. You can use items or skills to lure the Slaveimps away and pick them off, as they are not very threatening on their own, or you can just stun the FOEs with skills or items to buy some time while fighting the Chimaera.

After Chimaera's defeat, return to where you last saw Kurogane and you'll get the Trust Band from it, allowing you to recruit Beasts to your guild.

In Pursuit of Salamox

The legendary Salamox's nest has been discovered deep in the Auburn Thicket. One brave soul must fetch a Fire Plume to mix the secret remedy.
Reward: 3000en

This mission is available once you reach 7F.

Minister Dubois speaks of the Duke who has fallen grievously ill, and his daughter is doing everything in her power to cure him. The Minister directs you to the Salamox nest on 8F, as its Fire Plume is an ingredient for a miracle cure. The den will be marked on your map.

Do not fight the Salamox, as you are not strong enough to match it in battle. Once you enter its territory, you'll draw the attention of the Firekings near it as well. They only restrict themselves to the corners of the area, so lure them out of the way to draw the attention of Salamox. Lure it in a circle to get into its den. The Fire Plume is in the deepest square.

If you forgot a Warp Wire/Ariadne Thread, there is an escape route south from the second marked square that gets you close to the stairs to 9F. However, you cannot ascend until you turn in the mission.

Extinguish the Hellion

A terrible demon is said to dwell in the Labyrinth's 10th floor. Those who would press onward must rid the forest of this horror!
Reward: 5,000en

This mission is issued once you meet Artelinde and Wilhelm on 10F. They won't let you pass until you accept this mission.

Continue onward to the Hellion's room on 10F, then defeat it to proceed.

Pluck the Snow Blooms

Beautiful flowers, fragile as snowflakes, grow somewhere in the Frozen Grounds. Obtain 4 of these to brew the secret remedy.
Reward: 8,000en

The quest is to get 4 Snow Blooms to brew an antidote for the Duke. The locations for those Flowers are at 12F sectors B-2, B-5, C-4, E-5. Note that the flowers can only be picked at night.

Lady Gradriel will appear to thank you for your efforts and hand you your reward. She also suggests that the royal family descends from residents of the floating castle, and asks you to journey up there in search of the Holy Grail to complete the Panacea.

The Castle and the Grail

We have made contact with the winged race who holds the key to accessing the heavenly castle. Negotiate with them and find the Grail of Kings.
Reward: 50,000en, Ducal Mark (accessory)

If you've reached 16F and made contact with the winged ones, Lady Gradriel will dispense these words to aid your progress: "As agreed, I speak the worlds of the Overlord by the ancient pact. Lead our return to the heavens!" These words of the pact will let a winged one let you through the door he guards on 18F, otherwise you cannot progress through that floor.

Once you reach 20F, you meet Canaan, the leader of the winged ones. He will not permit you passage until you bring him the Old Bauble. This is where this mission becomes available. Accept it, and you will receive the Old Bauble to continue through 20F. Canaan will warn you of the Queen of the Skies who guards the way up to the heavenly castle.

This mission will last to the end of the game as you enter the Heavenly Keep and make it all the way to the Overlord at the end. After defeating the first form of the Overlord, he will make an offer of immortality in exchange of leaving him to continue his work on the Holy Grail. Agreeing will lead to a Game Over, refusing will initiate the second part of his fight. Defeat the Overlord, claim the Grail, load your clear data, and return to the Duke's Palace to save the Duke's life and claim your reward. You also receive the Ducal Mark (Accessory, HP +100, TP +50).

But your journey is not quite over. After reporting this mission and attempting to leave, the Minister will bring up that the winged ones spoke of a way to rid the Labyrinth of all monsters. Though he is uncertain of the authenticity of this claim, he cannot continue to risk more lives sending soldiers into risky territory, and turns to your guild for help. Accepting his request will unlock the sidequests necessary to allow you to fully explore the Forbidden Wood.
