EO1/Missions

From Etrian Odyssey Wiki
< EO1

Missions are crucial to story progression, and are issued one at a time by Subaltern Quinn at Radha Hall. The game usually prevents you from progressing too far into the labyrinth until you've taken up and completed the associated mission.

Adventurer's initiation

New adventurers must be tested by mapping the 1st floor of the Labyrinth. Meet the soldier on B1F for the details.
Reward: 500en

Upon accepting this mission from Quinn, you are given a partially-filled map of the first floor of the Emerald Grove. Enter the first floor of the labyrinth and meet with the soldier who will give you a brief tutorial. Explore as much as you can within the red rectangular box marked on the mapping screen, and remember to draw in your walls. Once you've filled out enough of your map, return to the soldier who will permit you to advance to the next floor, but don't forget to turn in this mission to gain access to the all-important Warp Wires/Ariadne Threads from the shop.

The terror of Fenrir

A pack of wolves patrols the bottom of Emerald Grove. Defeat Fenrir, the alpha of the pack, and perhaps their menace will be no more.
Reward: 2000en

This mission becomes available at B3F, where Ren and Tlachtga stand guard at a door just past the large rooms rooms housing the Stalkers and urge you to return to town first. Return to Radha Hall to learn of Fenrir, the leader of a pack of wolves populating the lower floors of the Grove. While Ren and Tlachtga may be capable of beating it, Quinn would prefer to support newcomers instead of relying on them. Prove your worth by defeating Fenrir in B5F to gain access to what lies beyond.

Retrieve the dragon's egg

A dangerous dragon resides in the Primitive Jungle. You've been charged with going to the dragon's nest and retrieving its egg.
Reward: 1500en

This mission is issued after you've reached B7F. Quinn tells of a Wyvern that Radha is eager to study, and asks that you journey into B8F, find its nest, and steal one of its eggs. The Wyvern resides in a big room on the right of B8F, and the egg is located on the tile directly below it. It rotates clockwise every three steps, and will pursue the party if they enter its line of sight. Do not fight it, it is better to return to it much later in the game. Sneak around it, grab the Egg, and return to town to turn in the mission.

After presenting the Egg, you'll also meet Visil, Chieftain of Radha Hall. He's impressed with your forays into the labyrinth, and urges you to delve deeper, as the ways forward are found in the Wyvern's nest.

The hunt for Cernunos

Cernunos, the king of the Jungle, is blocking further exploration of the Labyrinth. Eliminate the thing before we lose more good men.
Reward: 3500en

This mission becomes available after you've reached B9F. Quinn and Visil warn you of Cernunos, which has slain countless explorers in B10F. Only two explorers ― Ren and Tlachtga ― have ever managed to get past it to the third stratum, and it's up to your guild to defeat Cernunos and open the path forward.

Map the newfound Stratum

Congratulations on reaching the Azure Rainforest. It's an unknown region, so we'd like you to create precise maps for B11 and B12F.
Reward: 5000en

This mission is issued immediately after turning in the mission from defeating Cernunos. With the way clear to the new stratum, you are now tasked with mapping out its first two floors. You will need to traverse every tile, and this also includes going through and mapping out the Royalant's boss room. Fortunately, you can also meet with four soldiers who will help fill out parts of the maps you need.

Turn in the mission and while Quinn praises you for your work, he is curious about the origins of the labyrinth and is doubtful about the Chieftain's motives behind prohibition of further exploration of the labyrinth.

Lurker in the rainforest

We've received word of a mysterious creature deep in the Azure Rainforest. Investigate this unknown life form and report back with your findings.
Reward: 8000en

This mission becomes available from B13F, and very likely as soon as you've finished the mission before. Quinn informs you of reports from the Radha soldiers that they have witnessed a strange humanoid creature. You will no doubt encounter it a few times as you venture deeper into the Azure Rainforest, and the creature will warn you against going any further. Reach B15F to confront the creature, who punishes you for trespassing by siccing Cotrangl on you.

Defeat Cotrangl and you'll receive a mysterious stone tablet. Return to Radha to turn in the mission, and Quinn will get the researchers to start deciphering it.

Annihilate the forest folk

The humunoid race of forest folk must be eradicated to allow further exploration of the Labyrinth. If its us or them, it's going to be us.
Reward: 15000en

While journeying through the Sandy Barrens you will no doubt cross paths with the mysterious humanoid creature from before. She speaks of a past pact between humankind and the forest folk, formed after a war between both races. Humankind had sworn not to intrude further into the Yggdrasil Labyrinth, which the forest folk call their home, and in turn neither race shall disturb the other.

After contact with the forest girl (and making progress into B17F), return to Radha Hall to confer your findings to Quinn. Quinn's also concerned about how often Visil is mobilizing Ren and Tlachtga, and brings you to confront him together. Visil acknowledges the ancient pact, but asserts that the Labyrinth and the influx of explorers are crucial to the livelihood of Etria, and he will not trade that to continue honoring the pact. Thus he issues the most controversial mission of the game: to slaughter the forest folk down to the last man.

Offscreen, Visil notes that your Guild has made progress that no explorer before them has achieved, but he must protect the secrets of the Labyrinth at all costs. If the Guild fails and is killed off, all the better, but he may require specialists if they go too far...

Your main mission here is to journey down to B20F and defeat Iwaopeln. The forest girl calls forth all of the forest's strongest warriors in a last stand. Not only do you have to defeat the boss in the middle of the floor, you must also defeat every single FOE on this floor before finishing off the boss. Leaving the labyrinth will cause all FOEs to respawn, but you can manually head back upwards to the healing spring on B18F if you need to freshen up.

After Iwaopeln's defeat, the forest girl concedes defeat and vanishes, never to be seen again. A hidden passage near the top of the floor opens up, leading you to the truth: Lost Shinjuku.

Quinn thanks you for clearing the path to the fifth stratum, but also notes that the Chieftain has gone missing. While he no longer issues any more missions, he urges you to continue your explorations to figure out where Visil has gone and what his plans are.
